Spirits of New Market 2009 was a great event. We had 105 visitors come for the tours, which is an increase over the past several years' attendance. Excellent comments were heard by the guides and other staff. We added two new characters this year and I think that added to the overall success of the night. Thanks to Helena for bringing Mrs. Sager to life for the evening. Byron did a great job with the story of Charlie Faulkner. Also of note, while we did get dampened by a few sprinkles, it DID NOT RAIN!!! I, for one, am very grateful.
Also in recent news, the ladies of the Volunteer Corps got together and accomplished great things in the sewing world. The focus of this year's annual sweatshop" sewing day was creating custom fitted patterns for dresses and corsets. Much work and even more fellowship was the order of the day. Vianne, we send you many thanks. The day would not have been as successful without you!
Christmas on the Farm is just around the corner on December 5th. Expect to hear more from me as the event gets closer. Plans for the day include the ever-popular ornament-making station, an afternoon showing of "Old Time Christmas in the Shenandoah Valley", a visit with soldiers in the military camp, storytelling and refreshments in the cellar, parlor games, music, the Christmas feast and more. And as always we'll celebrate Christmas with our depiction of a hungry family enjoying their Christmas dinner! More to come but start spreading the word among friends and family. Don't forget that the event is free to every person bringing a new, unwrapped toy valued at $10 or more for the Toys for Tots collection!
